I let the shield fall at last, the Daeva, led by Raethnn, coming forward to seize the empty shell of Xeoniteridone and
relieve Ram of Elphremantic's wailing, quivering form.
"My Ruler." The desperate son of my fallen enemy tried to catch my attention. "Please, forgive me! It was all my father's
idea. I was under his sway-"
"Save it." Ram shoved him a little harder than was necessary, Elphremantic falling into Bakari's not-so-gentle hands.
"She's not interested."
I really wasn't. And not just because I still had a big job ahead of me, either. It would be a pleasure to see the slim
demon who deceived me stripped of power. I might even let Ram take care of it personally.
My sorcery grumbled, hungry again.
I looked up, met my sister's eyes. She seemed nervous, agitated, but when I gestured for her to come forward, she came at
me with a rush and hugged me tight.
"Nice job, sis," she said. "Way to beat the bad guys."
I hugged her back. "More to do," I said.
