After they got back to their classroom, being late for 5 minutes for eating too slowly but that doesn't even matter as their class is History and the teacher is nowhere to be seen. Layla and Alex enter the classroom and she goes in front while Alex sat down of his chair, waiting for whatever it is she's going to announce. Her classmates all shushed down and waited for her patiently as she pressed her lips and sighed in disappointment but at the same time in relief because if making the sports fest early can make the school alive again then it's a good thing.
"What is it? Did something happen?" Kim asked her while approaching her with furrowed brows.
Layla smiles at her and shakes her head. Kim nodded and stood beside her while waiting for her to speak. "The principal and the teachers have made a decision and I hope all of you can understand this." Layla looked around at each and every one of them while smiling. "They decided to have an early sports fest, next week and we all need to participate in cleaning and preparing the whole school for it but before anyone can say something against it, please know that I can understand you but I think we all need to clear our heads from the sad occurrence to make this school alive again. You know how teachers are not teaching properly right? And we all teach ourselves? We need to make it right and it's okay if nobody wants to participate in any of the sports because trust me, I don't even want to participate in any of them too as you all know I'm bad at sports." Layla ended with a joke and they all laughed while nodding.
"Yeah! That'll be great!"
"I think that's exactly what this school needs right now."
"But how can that make the teachers happy? I get how that can make students happy and contended but how about the teachers?" Alex asked with furrowed brows while clicking his tongue which made all of their classmates looked at him and their excitement got ruined.
Layla nods, understanding what he meant by that because that's also what she's thinking about. Teachers don't really participate in the sports fest but some teachers do coach, referees, and the umpires in each sport when they get picked and asked by the principal but most of the time senior students lead that. Other than that, teachers will spend their time inside their offices while students have a great time so she can understand why Alex is worried about that.
"Yeah...now that I think about it, how can it help teachers?" Arianna, one of their classmates asked while crossing her arms and nodding, agreeing with Alex, who also secretly just likes Alex and is trying to impress him.
"How about the student council president? We haven't elected one yet!"
"Yeah! And our new history teacher is still nowhere to be found."
"I don't think it's the most appropriate thing to do. I think that the sports fest will not do anything to us all."
"Listen, don't start bombarding Layla questions at the same time!" Zoey told them, understanding exactly how it feels when everybody puts you on the spot while standing up from the chair. Layla opens her mouth, wanting to say something and explain but Zoey continues which made her close her mouth and giggle softly.
"I'm sure all of that have explanations. Like, for one that I could think of, it will give the teachers less pressure and they have time to recover for a week. We will also do whatever it takes to make this school alive again, we won't rest until all of us are joyful and happy again!-"
Kim cleared her throat loudly and glanced at Layla who is giggling at Zoey. "Zoey? I think that's enough, thank you for calming us all down but we should listen to what Layla has to say."
Zoey blushes and nods, sitting down again. "Yeah, sure...sorry I got carried away." She apologized, realizing how dramatic she sounded.
Layla smiles at her. "It's fine. I also needed your opinion anyway because I look up to you."
Zoey thanked her and stayed quiet after that to let Layla speak. "As Zoey was saying, all of the decisions that they have made have proper explanations. I'm sure that the teachers, as adults, know the right thing to do and it's clearly their jobs to handle us so they have to participate now and they are left with no other choice at all. We will give the sports fest a chance to make us all return to our usual selves because we can't always be like this, now, can we? They are adults so I'm sure that they will do whatever they have to do or else they'll be out of their jobs, no matter how harsh that sounds. We will also help them if that doesn't work enough for them. We have to make them as the coaches, the referees, the umpires, the whatever it is, is needed in sports and we will have a meeting later so I'm sure we'll talk about all of this and we'll find suitable solutions, 'kay? So calm down and relax, we'll be fine." They nodded.
"As for the student council president and the other open positions, Jace told me that we will held that later and afterward we'll discuss it in the meeting. While our new history teacher? I don't even know what that teacher is doing and I just hope he will have proper clarification for the other problems that he caused, to why he hasn't arrived yet. He'll be here next week too and you know how we barely get new teachers here because of the over qualifications and requirements that are needed to teach here, right? I'm sure because of his expected arrival next week, it will excite teachers and students because we will see a new face other than those same teachers that we see ever since we're in kindergarten. Excitement equals happiness so they'll be fine in no time. We will just to have faith and hope for the sake of all." Layla finishes and she glanced at Mark and his friends to see how he reacted when she said the name of the kid that they have beaten up badly.
Mark avoided her eyes and just nodded, pretending to listen really carefully as well as his friends.
That made it too obvious that they were really the ones who did that to him but Layla just brushes it off and silently thanked them.
Layla's classmates listened to her and they all laughed afterward because it's evident in Layla's face and words that she already doesn't like their new history teacher, while most of them think it's because of the fact that Sir Arthur is gone is soon to be replaced already, some of them thinks that Layla doesn't like the new teacher because he caused problems with how they'll study in the history class.
"But I heard the new teacher's handsome! That's why Mrs. Vivian flirted and hired him." One of the twins, Celine says while twirling her hair with her finger and crossing her legs.
"I heard he even slept with all of the female professors and students in the university." Alice says, the much more cheeky but more introverted than her sister who has seduced most of the males in the school and who isn't afraid to look like a hoe though they're both smart.
All of them laughed while they are one in insulting and disliking the new teacher while joking around and teasing Layla at the same time.
"But how old do you all think he is? Mrs. Vivian's like 100 years old, she's even more older than the president of the school. So he must be young enough to make the old hag seduce him."
Layla's eyes widened while Kim beside her blushed from being too innocent, she even covered her ears. Layla puts her index finger over her mouth and shakes her head rapidly. "SHH! Guys, come on! Stop! People might hear us! I don't want to take the fall for all of you."
They laughed and Liv speaks. "Mark's father is the president of the school so he can take the fall and lie for us."
They all looked at Mark who has zoned out from the topic that his classmates are talking about since he wasn't interested anymore but when he heard his name he looks at them and grins. "Fuck off, Liv. I'm having a moment here."
Liv rolled her eyes and continued teasing him but before things can get more noisy and messy, Kim and Layla asked them who'd like to read a chapter in their textbook but when no one volunteered nor answered, Layla smiles at them and told them that she'll read but they have to follow and be quiet.
"Are you sure? You seem tired...maybe it's best if I do that." Kim reassured her with a soft smile while she takes out her glasses and put them on. "Just take a seat, I'll read first then we'll take turns."
Layla thanked her and agreed, taking a sit on her chair, besides Alex and Liv who are noisy but once Layla sat down, they quieted down and Layla chuckles. They all put out of their textbooks and notebooks, wanting to write down a few words and the most important parts of the lesson. Kim starts to read out loud while they listen to her soft voice.
