What would you do if you one day wake up as a adorable dragon? How would you handle it being different and a dragon? Here is a story for the WPC #103 writing prompt. ||I have great ideas and get bursts of inspiration but it tends to run off so I am not sure it this would be continued. I am also a very new writer and tend to make run-on sentences or confusing paragraphs.||
She wakes up in a jolt breathing sharply as she mulls over her dream where she was flying in the sky free from the expectations pushed onto her and free from the judging of her peers from her job. Until she was hit by realism and fell and fell towards the ground to only wake up before she hit the hard floor.
'That was the third time this week I dreamt of that,' she thought as she was getting out of the bed only to fall face-first on her face.
'Why is the bed so big?' She looks up towards the relatively massive bed and looks towards her claws.
'Wait? Claws?' She quickly looks behind her and sees a red-scaled body that has small wings tucked to the side when she turned her new head around. 'Am I a dragon? Wait for DRAGON!' She shakes her head and bounds towards her mirror like she always had that body and looks at herself and sees a small cat sized dragon staring back at her. She opens her mouth, and it opens its mouth. 'I am actually a dragon.' Her heart freezes as she realizes the outcome of others finding her as a dragon and her previous content life even with the expectations. Small tears start running from her lizard eyes as she began to think the hunting parties after her.
'Stop thinking about bad things, start thinking of the future, and plan ahead.' She gets up and paces around her room and looks under her bed, seeing an old photo of her family. The last one they took together before they died in a plane crash while she stayed behind to continue medical school.
She flips the photo over as a new set of tears replace the previous ones, and she sees her name written by her family when they heard she was going into the medical industry.
"With love to Liza." With their names written in their style surroundings, the sentence.
Liza lays her head down onto the picture as tears fall.
She stands onto her four legs and walks to the door barely and barely manages to open the door with the pads on the bottom of her feet and goes into the kitchen feeling hungry.
She reaches the kitchen with no problem and quickly opens the fridge, and it was very sparse with food except two pounds of ground beef as she practically lives off of homemade burgers.
The small dragon leaps into the countertop like a cat and pulls a cast iron skillet that she uses every day feeling that it is oddly light and sets it on the stove as she drags the ground beef towards it and then leaning the edge to turn on the heat with her claw accidentally getting her tail engulfed in flames as she was leaning on the side and using her claw. 'It feels good' she feels the welcoming warmth on her tail as flames swell in her mouth, and she breathes out a small bout of flame. 'I can breathe fire? I can breathe fire!' In her bout of happiness, she falls off the stove with a chirp falling onto her face again.
Back on top of the counter, she drags the pan on to the fire and uses the full two pounds of ground beef, dumping it into the pan as butter spreads across the bottom.
While she is waiting for the beef to cook occasionally using her claw to stir it, she tears out her fire breathing, and it seemed that the more flame and the hotter it is, the better fire she can breathe, and the more fire she could breathe.
Smelling the meat and seeing that it is brown, she turns off the fire and pulls the hot pan off the stove with her mouth because the heat does not bother her anyway.
When the meat is off the stove, she starts to eat the ground beef and quickly eats the full two pounds. Feeling full, she tries to talk only, making small chirping sounds like you would expect a cat to make.
Walking to her tv across the room, she turns it on pressing the buttons with the tip of her claw and turns to the news to have it show.
"Breaking news! Are superheroes real? Early this day, a flying man saved a family of three from crashing into an electrical transformer when the brakes failed going around a corner. Their also multiple accounts of people bursting into flames and even some slinging ice around! What is happening today?"
Feeling both excited and sad that she is probably not the only one different, she jumps off and goes to her computer and turns it on and awkwardly moves the mouse and types her password, then moving to google and goes to twitter and sees that a lot of people have changed. Some were able to fly, and others had elemental powers there were also some speedsters and tech wizards, but still no changes in species. Feeling better that she probably is not going to be focused on yet and hunted by the army she browses the web for the rest of the day gaining on what happened trying to see if anything else is different and finding she can control fire also project her voice towards even though she has to actively think and say. Feeling glad she would be able to talk to others, she goes to her bathroom and jumps into the bathtub and start to run the hottest water she can get to fill the tub and plays in the water cleaning herself.
After the bath, she drys herself using her flames to evaporate the water she walks to her room and jumps onto the bed going asleep after a very long stressful day. Feeling better than the end of the day is here and that she also does not have work tomorrow she drifts off to a dream where she is flying in the sky but as a dragon now roaring into the sky.
