Eating together

Sam and Kent dropped her off in front of her apartment building. Chen really needed to do some shopping to make lunch, but she did not want to ask Sam for another favor. He had already done so much. He had given her the scholarship.

After saying bye to them, Chen did not go in. She waited until his Porche turned the corner and then went to the nearest grocery store. She bought some stuff and came back home. Once at home, Chen looked at the time. "Shit. It's already 11:30. I should better get to work."

She quickly put on an oversized t-shirt, which fell to her knees and tied an apron around her waist. Then she got to work.

Chen made soup and salad to go with the dumplings. Then Chen thought something and decided to make ramen with grilled pork and boil some rice.

Actually, growing up in the village, and being the older daughter, Chen was a really good cook. She used to help her mother a lot when she lived at home. But since she moved to the city, Chen had been too lazy to cook for herself. The main reason was that she never really liked cooking. She was prone to too much accidents in the kitchen. While preparing this meal, Chen burned her finger a little, spilled soup over her apron, and almost let the pork burn.

She was almost done when the bell rang. It was Mo Kio. Chen opened the door and invited him in. Kio had brought some pastries with him. Chen exclaimed, "Ooo how nice. I did not have time to prepare dessert. It's just as well you brought them."

Kio looked her up and down and reached out to wipe some flour off her cheek.

He said, "Hua and Zenghai here yet?"

Yu Chen: "Nope. You're the first one here. Wait in the living room, I'm almost done."

As he walked towards the living room, he said, "I really like your photo on Renren, by the way."

Yu Chen muttered him a thanks as her attention was occupied by the ramen which was almost done. As she began laying down the food on the dining table, Kio stood up, "Let me help you."

Yu Chen: *While trying to manage a rather large bowl of soup* "Oh I got it."

Mo Kio: "Okay. Do you need help in the kitchen?"

Yu Chen: "Nope. I'm almost done. Just need to warm up the dumplings. Call those idiots and ask where they are."

As Mo Kio was about to call them, the doorbell rang.

He stood up, "They're probably here." He went to the door and in came Xi Hua and Huo Zenghai, carrying juices for them all.

Yu Chen: "Holy shit! Are we connected by telepathy?!?!?! You all brought the only things that were not there. Drinks and dessert."

Xi Hua came and kissed her on the cheek, "That's what besties are for."

Yu Chen brushed her away and they all sat down to eat. During the meal, everyone kept praising Yu Chen's cooking skills and getting angry about the fact that they had not tasted her cooking before.
