I don't want to remember, I don't want to remember
The logo necklace now adorned her neck, it was comforting in a strange way. She had done far too much investigating for one day - she deserved to rest now. The small island made her feel safe, a childlike wonder. For now at least, she felt completely safe within its walls. Making her way back downstairs, she joined Peter in the bedroom, laying down on the bed adjacent to his.
He was still fast asleep, catching up on all the sleepless nights he must of faced these past few months. She watched him carefully for a while, she knew she was growing more fond of him. It would be hard to leave him behind, but she had to protect him from herself. She had no clue what she was, what she was capable of, or even what danger she would attract. Her eyes soon grew heavy, as much as she tried she couldn't fight the sleep much longer. Her eyes shut tightly, drifting off into bliss.
The dark turned into light, bright white light blinding her vision. Stainless steel hospital equipment standing out. You have to remember, Shi. I'm coming Shi, I'm coming soon, please remember. Panic set in, the weary voice growing louder and louder. Her ears throbbed, bright red liquid dripping down her neck. The gut-wrenching stench of iron and rot filled her mind, the white light now a dark crimson. Screams and cries of many pierced her ears like knives. You need to focus, Shi, you can do this, you are the only one who can... Tears streamed down her face. I can't do it, I can't! I can't do any of this, I'm not strong enough... A loud crash broke her focus, followed by Peter's pleading cries, Shiloh! Help!. The familiar choking, gurgling of blood. Peter! I can't... I'm trying! Another loud crash finally silenced all of the chaos. You can save him, you can save us all.
Her eyes shot open, she was back in the house. It was all a sick dream. She tried to roll over, wanting so bad to check on Peter. She couldn't move, it was as if she was frozen in time. She struggled and fought the paralysis, eventually able to turn her head, she looked over panic now setting in. She was no longer on the bed, instead levitating five feet above, floating like a lifeless cloud. She screamed as loud as she could, the high pitched noise shrieking throughout the house. Peter quickly woke up, eyes wide with fear. As quickly as it happened, her body fell back to the bed with a loud thud.
Peter rushed to her side, stroking her hair with his hand. She couldn't bottle her emotions up any longer, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. Neither one of them could think of anything to say, so instead they sat in silence comforting eachother without a word.
"I-... I don't know what I am."
"Shiloh... Do you trust me?"
"Y-Yeah..."
"Then tell me what the hell is going on, stop hiding everything from me..."
"You're right..."
It took a good hour to explain the whole story to him, leaving out some minor details just to save time. She explained who her parents are, what they were involved in, everything she knew about the experiments they had done on her, and even the voices she kept hearing. Of course she knew he would still have questions, as did she, but there was time for that.
"What was that just now? You were like - flying, floating, something like that.."
"I don't know what that was.. I had a dream.. there was so much blood... My father kept telling me I had to remember, but I couldn't, until I heard you screaming.. you were... you needed help.. and then I woke up, doing whatever that was.."
"I think that was you remembering..."
"Well I sure as hell don't know how to do that again."
"That necklace, it's new."
"Y-Yeah.. I found it... There was a note with it, my dad telling me to be careful of him, and again that I needed to remember."
"See, I knew that you were a badass. Sounds like you have powers, kind of like a superhero, you just need to learn how to control them."
"But how the hell do I do that?"
"I mean, you mentioned right before you woke up you heard me screaming for you, maybe they're brought on by emotions, maybe you just need to feel what you want to do."
"That sounds so lame,"
"Hey! It's just a theory..."
"Now is there any other super cool details you wanna spill so I'm all caught up?"
"I-I don't know if I should tell you.." her body began to tremble with fear.
"Woah, Shiloh? What is it?"
"In the dream... he mentioned he was coming, that he was coming very soon, and if I don't remember before then, I think we're in trouble.."
