Yun and his men were holding Yangren without the enemy even knowing it as they didn't raise a flag showing that they were occupying it.
Pang Tong soon realized why Yun wanted to take Yangren as the enemy needed to pass beside the town to attack Luyang as it was the fastest and easiest way to get to Luyang.
He was happy that his Lord recognized it only by looking on the map for a moment as they were preparing for the end of the winter that would come in the next months.
Yun would send a letter home every week just so they knew that he was alright. If he wasn't writing them he would be looking towards the street outside looking for some activities from the enemy when he spots a little army pass beside Yangren.
"Should we attack them?" asks Taishi Ci as Yun shakes his head.
"No, if we reveal ourselves now we would need to exterminate the whole army so they can't report about us in Yangren," says Yun as they saw the army march towards Luyang.
"But we should send words to the others so they are prepared for the enemy," says Yun as he retreated from the wall and wrote a letter which he gave Shadow to take to Luyang.
Shadow flew toward Luyang and landed near the house that was used as a commanding center inside it was Sun Jian And Yuan Shu as they were discussing the advancement that Sun Jian would take in spring.
Shadow not caring at all just landed on Yuan Shu's head and dropped the letter before flying out of the open window she came in.
"I will kill that flying rat!" shouts Yuan Shu behind Shadow who had already left for Yangren.
Sun Jian noticed the letter it dropped on the table and picks it up before dropping it and running out of the house.
Once outside he finds Cheng Pu and says, "Tell the others to prepare for an incoming attack."
"I will do as commanded," says Cheng Pu as he leaves right away to inform the army.
Sun Jian then returned and find Yaun Shu destroying the message before saying, "Why isn't he attacking them? For what do I pay him?"
"He said that he will lay low in Yangren until the winter is over. He doesn't see an advantage in fighting in those conditions," says Sun Jian as he was quite serious because he also didn't want to fight under those conditions.
"They will be here by tomorrow. What do you have in mind to fend off the attack?" asks Yuan Shu angry as he was still angry with Yun not moving his troops to attack.
"I already informed my commander to get everyone ready. We will await them and push them back if needed," says Sun Jian as he left to prepare for the defense of Luyang.
In the meantime in Yangren, Yun was sitting with his Commanders when he says, "We won't move until the first month of spring has passed. Then we will begin our advance to the capital."
"Why wait for so long? Many will try to get to Dong Zhuo," says Gan Ning as Yun looked at him and smiles.
"Many will try but only we will achieve it. But for that to happen we need the weather as well as the enemy to be in our favor. That will be when Dong Zhuo will feel our pressure on his neck," says Yun as he took a map out of Luoyang and its surroundings which had Yangren on.
He begins to plan the strategy they will be following once the first month of spring passed. Yun explained that if Lu Bu should appear he would take care of him on his own while the rest continues with what Pang Tong and Tang Shi would ask from them.
Just because he was dueling Lu Bu doesn't mean that they can sit still and relax while he is working. In reality, Yun wanted them to charge forward which would make the duel between him and Lu Bu a draw since Lu Bu needed to retreat and regroup with his troops if that were to happen.
Two days later they see the enemy army retreating back to Luoyang which made many people inside the city nervous since they didn't know what happened but Yun was relaxed as he played Chess against Pang Tong.
"So Sun Jian pushed the enemy back without fighting them it seems," says Pang Tong as he was concentrating on the game while having a bit of Smalltalk.
"Did you really think that an army of five thousand men would dare to attack one that surpasses them by more than four times? It was no wonder that they retreated without fighting," says Yun as he took Pang Tong's pawn.
"The men are at least training at the moment to warm themselves up," says Pang Tong as he took Yun's pawn having revanche for the pawn he lost.
"They should dry themselves after the exercise. I can't have them get sick while we stay here," says Yun as he moved his knight to take the pawn which was unprotected.
"So we are just relaxing before the storm arrives," says Pang Tong as he protected his flanks from the knight.
"It seems so but once the storm hits we will feel alive," says Yun as they continued to play.
Time passed and the snow melted making it clear that spring began as Sun Jian moved out from Luyang as he said before.
He was marching towards Liangdong to take the town. What Sun Jian didn't know was that his army was visible to the enemy who had scouts watching the camp of Luyang.
The moment they saw which way they were going they could pinpoint the location Sun Jian was going to attack. But to his luck, he informed Yun about his attack on Liangdong two days ago.
Yun told the messenger to tell Sun Jian that if he needed to retreat he should retreat to Yangren instead of marching the whole way back to Luyang since Yangren was nearer.
Yun knew that a retreat is when the greatest massacres start on the battlefield since you are turning your back to the enemy who can just plunge his weapon into your back.
Yun readied the army as they will soon be fighting against Dong Zhuo's army. Everyone thought that they would march but Yun didn't give the order as he was standing on the wall.
He could see dust come up from the forest to his east which indicated to him that Sun Jian and his army were coming towards Yangren followed by a second cloud of dust which seemed to represent the enemy.
"Hua, prepare the cavalry!" shouts Yun down from the wall before he turns to Huang Zhong and he shouts, "Commander Huang, prepare to take the infantry and occupy the trenches with your spears while placing the barricades in front of you!"
"Yes, sir!" shout Hua and Huang Zhong as they began to prepare when Yun turned to Taishi Ci.
"Commander Taishi, prepare the Archers on the wall!" shouts Yun as Taishi moved his Archers up the wall.
They now knew that they will be defending this position instead of attacking. Yun turned to Pang Tong and Tang Shi before looking at the two dust clouds that were moving towards Yangren.
"I will be joining my brother as I will be spearheading the cavalry into battle. You two make sure that the infantry and archers do their job well," says Yun as both bow in respect.
"Of course, my lord," says Pang Tong as it would be the first time seeing Yun fight seriously even more so Thunder.
Yun walked down and mounted Thunder who was brought to him by Wei Yan. Yun petted his head while giving him a sad smile.
"I'm sorry for dragging you into this war, Wei Yan. Try to keep your head down while killing the enemy" says Yun as Thunder moved to the gate where the cavalry was waiting.
Yun was holding his spear as he reached the cavalry and the infantry opened the gate when Yun turns to Hua and says, "Our objective is to get Sun Jian here. Not to kill the enemy."
"Yes, sir," says the cavalry as they were only 500 men strong but it should be enough to cause some disarray for the enemy.
They rushed out like a spear as Yun was the tip of it followed by his brother on the right side of him. They rushed in at the moment Sun Jian's army was on the plane so they wouldn't need to enter the forest and stress the horses.
Sun Jian's army left the forest and rushed at Yangren when they saw the cavalry awaiting them in Yangren and now the black banner of Zhao was sailing in the wind as the cavalry charged at them.
Sun Jian was there as well with his two sons, and his commanders when they see Yun on Thunder which shocked them to see such a big horse as the cavalry passed them and entered the enemy's formation piercing through it using the sheer force behind their horses.
Yun pierced through three enemies still carrying them on his spear while Thunder was just trampling them over. The cavalry followed Yun through the enemy line before they make a U-turn.
Yun and the others take this opportunity to free their spears from the enemy's corpses as they followed Yun's lead who used his right foot to push them off.
The enemy was in disarray and Yun knew why since they followed the army while their General and Commander followed most likely the decoy which Sun Jian prepared before.
Yun didn't care about that as he and his cavalry charged through them again while Sun Jian finally reached the trenches and he sees Yun's infantry in it.
They were all holding spears waiting for the enemy to approach while the barricades were placed around to abstract the enemy from taking an advantaged path against them.
Yun and his cavalry came out again and Yun shouts, "Retreat!"
"Retreat?" asks Hua as he and the whole cavalry could read that they were winning.
They were confused but did as commanded and Yun was smiling which confused them even more as he pushed the corpses of his enemy from his spear before they hear a roar from the enemy which thought that they could win if they stormed them now.
The cavalry reached the trenches and Yun says to Hua, "The moment the enemy and the infantry is fighting you rush at them using the passages we created with the barricades."
"You are really evil, brother. You baited them in by shouting retreat," says Hua as he now knew that this all was a scheme of Yun.
"Just let the Archers have some fun as well and ride in-between the trenches," says Yun as he jumped from Thunder and joined the trenches.
