"You're fired." That was Olivia's last straw. She dropped her phone as soon as she heard those words. It was a very rough week for her; her parents announced that they will be getting a divorce. She was the only child and thought that her parents had a loving relationship. They confessed that they only got together because of her and this made Olivia guilty of her existence. A few days after her parents' announcement, she left her apartment to visit her boyfriend but found him in bed with another woman. Olivia was unable to function normally for a few days. Hoping for a brighter tomorrow, she kept a cheery disposition but later that same week, she received a phone call from her boss saying she was being let off without a valid reason.
"I must've been cursed." Olivia muttered under her breath. She picked up her phone from the floor and put it in her pocket. She was staying in an apartment by herself, thinking that it was for the best, she decided to leave the apartment and go on vacation. She had saved enough money for her to visit the one place she had always dreamed of: Japan.
I'll settle my life here in America after I get back. I need to clear my head and relax for a while. Olivia thought to herself. She took out her phone and booked a one-way flight to Hiroshima, Japan as well as a hotel room. She was already prepared with her documents. She'd been planning to go there ever since she got a job and now that she's finally able to go, she'll be able to enjoy herself. While packing her suitcase, her phone started to ring. Without checking to see who it was, she answered.
"Olivia?" It was a familiar voice. It was her ex-boyfriend Luke. She remembered the scene when she caught him in bed with someone else.
"What do you want?" She asked coldly. A sigh was heard at the other end.
"Please, let me explain." Luke begged but Olivia was tired of hearing words that disappointed her. She was tempted to end the call then and there but she thought that Luke might come to her apartment if she did so she decided to end it with Luke once and for all.
"Luke, please stop calling me. We're done. I don't want to hear anything more about it. Don't look for me anymore. Goodbye." She ended the call without hearing what Luke had to say. She continued to pack her clothes. Afterwards, she decided to go to a salon near her apartment to get her hair dyed. She has always wanted to dye her hair but it wasn't allowed at her job and her now ex-boyfriend disapproved of it. Now that she's no longer restrained, she decided to go on ahead and do what she wanted.
"What color would you like?" The stylist asked. She handed Olivia a tiny booklet filled with the color choices they had available and asked her to choose from there. There was only one color she wanted her hair to be.
"I'd like it to be silver please." She said. The stylist smiled at her and took the booklet away.
"That's a good choice. It's a pretty trendy color right now." She said. Olivia smiled as the stylist prepped her for the process. A few hours later and Olivia's hair was completely dyed. It was a beautiful shiny silver color similar to that of Storm, one of the characters from the X-Men. She thanked the stylist and proceeded to the counter to pay. Her flight to Japan wouldn't be for another 4 hours so she decided to brush up on her Japanese. Since she's been dreaming to go to Japan, she also studied the language as well as the culture as to not offend anyone when she's there. She checked her phone and noticed a myriad of missed calls from Luke to which she ignored. A few hours later and she decided to go to the airport. She gave her keys to the landlady and said her goodbyes.
"I'm going to miss you Olivia. I treat you like my own daughter, I'm so sad to see you go." The landlady said. Olivia held her hand and gave her a hug.
"I'm gonna miss you too Mrs. Williams." She waved goodbye as she pulled her luggage into the street where a cab was waiting for her. She looked back at the place where she spent almost 8 years of her life. The driver started the cab and drove to the airport. She checked in her two suitcases and she proceeded to the boarding gate. Without telling anyone where she was going, she boarded the plane.
A few hours later…
Olivia had arrived in Iwakuni Kintaikyo Airport and she was ecstatic upon landing. She quickly grabbed her luggage from the conveyor and went outside to breathe the air of another country. She felt carefree seeing as her problems wouldn't be able to reach her from here. The hotel she booked had an airport pick-up service for their guests and she found the hotel's car parked at the designated area. She approached the man who was holding up a sign with her name on it.
"Konnichiwa, watashi wa Olivia desu (Hello, I am Olivia.)." She said as she pointed to the sign the driver was holding. The driver looked up at her and was surprised to hear that she knew Japanese.
"Anata wa Olivia-sama desu ka (Are you Miss Olivia?)?" He said while pointing at his signboard. Olivia nodded her head and the driver immediately bowed at her and helped with her luggage. He opened the door for her and afterwards, he went to the driver's side and entered. Olivia thought that there would be other guests that will be taken to the hotel but it seems that she was the only one.
"Ano sumimasen, hoka no gesuto wa arimasen ka (um excuse me, are there no other guests?)?" Olivia asked. The driver looked at her and shook his head.
"Iie, anata dake (No, only you)." He said. Olivia nodded her head and kept quiet. The hotel wasn't that far from the airport, they arrived sooner than she anticipated. When they arrived, a group of bellboys took out her luggage from the car and escorted her to the front desk.
"Check-In wo onegai shimasu. Namae wa Olivia Kopf desu (I'd like to check in please. My name is Olivia Kopf.)." Olivia said as she handed her passport to the lady. She typed in her name and found her reservation. She gave Olivia her passport back along with a keycard.
"Oheya no Bangou wa nihyaku nana de gozaimasu. Kochira ga keycard desu (Your room number is 207. And here is your keycard.)." Olivia thanked her and a bellboy showed her to the elevator. They arrived in front of her room and she swiped the keycard on the sensor and the door opened. The room was simple and elegant and Olivia liked it. The bellboy took her luggage from the caddy and rolled them in her room. Olivia thanked him as he closed the door. Olivia ran to the bed and jumped on it.
"I'm going to enjoy my stay here." She said. But she didn't expect something to happen on this trip.
