Deadhead

A deadhead occurs when a tree log ends up in water and starts absorbing the water. One end will usually absorb more water causing it to sink down. What you'll be left with is a short stump barely poking out of the water, ready to annihilate any small boat that might hit it.

It's basically the in between phase of a log absorbing water and sinking down.
