Pokémon

The well known game all about about catching and battling creatures. Other ways of interpreting this game is that it's all about enslaving creatures to fight for you but most of the time just locking them up in a magical storage system where they will stay imprisoned till the end of time. You could also see it as illegal gambling matches since each win somehow earns you money. Over the years most people have at least heard of the Pokémon franchise considering how it has anime adaptations, movies, a card game, and all kinds of Pokémon themed merchandise ranging from large stuffed Pokémon to Pokémon undies.

The console games have never been that hard as they are geared towards children. But the newest ones are just ridiculously easy. Any part that used be harder was pretty much removed by the time Sun and Moon came out. Back then you had to memorize which Pokémon is weak to which set of moves (attacks) and this made attacking a bit more of trying out moves to see what worked against everything. Now the game just tells you if the move is going to be super effective, effective or not very effective removing the trial and error aspect. They've also made it that Pokémon level up at insane rates. This is partially due to xp share that used to be limited to one Pokémon that didn't participate in battle if it has a certain item equipped. Now every single Pokémon you're carrying will gain xp after a battle. In the end your Pokémon will be absolute beasts that one shot everything because they are 20 levels to high and you waste more time on the battle intros than the battle itself. And then there's the friendship mechanic where your Pokémon can survive multiple back to back fatal hits, completely strait up dodge attacks, land increased critical hits and even snap out of status effects instantly. The problem with the last one is if you actually used a move like rest where your Pokémon is instantly brought back to full hp at the consequence of it falling asleep but it just not falling asleep from it's own move is a ridiculous concept (instant max heal at no cost). Please explain to me my self inflicted harm can be negated...

One way to spice up your game is if everytime you multi battle (2 v 2) your first goal is to eliminate your teammate. Yes friendly fire is on and there is no punishment whatsoever. Nintendo didn't even implement dialog for this situation since they never expected anybody would destroy their allies first. The dialogue that does appear is however quite satisfying along the lines of "I knew you could do it!" and "Nice one!".

The moral of the story is, Pokémon has become too easy, stick to something like real life if you want a challenge.
