I drag my feet behind me, waiting for the infamous baker's yell.
Sure enough it soon blasts though my ears, "Fresh buns! Fresh bread! Only for 2 coppers each!" I flinch, even with the past 10 years of hearing him, I'm still not immune to his screechy voice, it felt like he hadn't gone through puberty yet. But I turn towards his stand, lift a few coppers, and steel myself for his obnoxious croak.
"Buns? Alex! Do you want some buns?" He squeals. A scowl attached to my lips, I watch his friendly smile slowly grow, he smelled of gratitude. "Only 2 coppers."
"I'll take 2 of your breads." I mutter, my voice sounding rough to my own ears. "Fresh."
He turned back to his stack of baked goods and wrapped together the breads, he held out his hand for the coins. The four shimmering copper nubs fell into his wrinkled hands. I grab my bread from his hand and continue down the rowdy street.
"Get out of the way asshole!" Someone in the crowd screamed.
"Shut up you fudging Mage!" Yelled another.
"Shithead!"
"What the hell man?"
"Go kill yourself."
"Fuck off ass-hat!"
"Abominations!"
The crowd threw insults like their life depended on it, and for some it did. The moving crowd couldn't seem to stop themselves from trying to push down those who are stronger then them. Trying their best to control the better, strong, and different counterparts. I hold down the growl jumping in my throat.
The humans only found out about our existence because of the "Uniter's," a group of all sorts of supernatural beings, deciding they want more from life than to just, as they put it, "hide with our thumbs up our asses."
Someone bumps into me, "I'm so sorry! I'll pay for new bread." He scrambled away from my mismatched eyes. His fear filled my senses, urging my inner beast to chase it's new prey.
"No. You're fine. I'll just have dinner without bread." I say, trying to calm down the terrified man, or I guess a Wolf. A submissive one.
He bowed his head and ran away from me, away from my beast. If I ever joined a pack or seethe, or whatever the hell the crowds called themselves these days, I would stand near the top, my beasts' are dominant and controlling. It's because I am a dominant supernatural that the submissive werewolf bowed and ran, to escape my presence, my control.
My collection of monsters protested our stand still, they pushed me to followed the Wolf and ravish him. The crowd had set a circle around me unconsciously, stay away from my direct gaze. At least this would keep me from my mates. The souls mates of my five monsters. My Succubus, Wolf, Lion, Vampire, and my Nephilim each have their own mate. Simply put I have a harem waiting for me if I ever get that selfish.
I sigh, continuing my short walk back home. The crowd still lively and carefree with cussing. But I soon hear a growl, over taking the people screeches.
My Wolf growled, 'Mate!'
Shit. I run away from the sound. The growl had silenced the crowd, had frozen them but now they're back and moving on like nothing happened, like the dominant Wolf's call didn't stop them in the spot. Shows how accepting people are these days.
I push pass monsters, humans, and a weird looking hybrid. With me closing in on my house; the abandoned prison's comforting call made me feel slightly calmer with the knowledge that one of my mates is close by. People avoided the place like the plague and that was part of the reason I chose it as my home. The Mate after me would turn away from this place, she would never think that her mate would live in a abandoned warehouse like prison.
'Go back,' my Wolf softly whined. She knew I couldn't go back. I wasn't supposed to exist. If someone found out, even my Mates, I would be killed on the spot. I was an abomination.
" No," I say softly. "I can't, I'm so sorry."
'Stay in at night,' my Vampire says, her voice soft with the knowledge that she will never get to hold her mate.
'Away from clubs,' adds my Succubus.
'Away from the prides,' my Lioness says softly.
'Away from our mates,' includes my Nephilim.
I finally enter the building feeling my tattered heart slowly lose it's beats. The cracked walls sent comfort to me, warming my heart of holes. The claw marks, iron bars, and lack of furniture felt like home, a sanctuary for my life.
"Mate!"
Shit! I run through the cobwebs in the old cafeteria, hearing the fast approaching steps behind me. I throw open the door to the guard check up but I could feel her catching up to me.
"Mate! Don't run, I swear on the Moon Goddess I won't hurt you!" Moon Goddess? She MUST be a Wolf.
I run through the back exit, a tear streaks down my face. My Wolf howls, the others follow in suite.
I'll never see her again, I try to come to terms with it.
