224. Saving Yuan Shu's Family

Knowing that Cao Cao now is focused on Kong Zhou and supporting Liu Bei he feels now is the perfect time to save Yuan Shu's family that was in Runan, fulfilling his promise to Ji Ling since Runan security will not be as high level as before, with Cao Cao sending supplies to Liu Bei and battling Kong Zhou who was standing on his last leg.

Lie Fan called for a high-level meeting with all of his advisors, Xu Kai, and Ji Ling. When Ji Ling knew that this meeting would be discussing the start of the plan to save Yuan Shu's family, he was so excited that he arrived earlier than the others even Jia Xu.

Lie Fan seeing how excited and grateful Ji Ling is to him, tells him to sit down and wait for the others while having some small conversation with him.

Lie Fan wanted to know what drove him to have such loyalty to Yuan Shu, Ji Ling began to describe how Yuan Shu gave him his full trust and gave him a chance to climb up the ranks, allowing him to give his family a better life.

He feels that Yuan Shu allows him to have the rank and life he could have right now, so he swears to himself that he will repay all the trust and chances that Yuan Shu gave to him.

Lie Fan nodded his head while Ji Ling explained his reason for being so loyal to Yuan Shu, he could actually see that Ji Ling was like Zhao Yun in terms of loyalty but with weaker prowess and choosing the wrong lord.

If he could have Ji Ling and Zhao Yun at the same time, maybe it would be out in history books how he will have two of the most loyal generals in the Three Kingdom eras, well that if it will be the Three Kingdom.

Lie Fan and Ji Ling's conversation with each other helped them pass the time waiting for the others, Jia Xu was the first one to come followed by the others, and when everyone finally came they began the meeting.

Lie Fan tells everyone about the plan to save Yuan Shu's family at Runan, something he promised to Ji Ling in exchange for his loyalty, some of his advisors like Cai Yong and Liu Ye protest this plan.

Lie Fan had expected this to happen, he knew that they cared about the backlash that he would receive for harboring a criminal of the dying Han Dynasty, after all a lean camel is still bigger than a horse.

Lie Fan raised his hand, indicating for his advisors who protested the plan to be silent, after everyone who protested his decision stopped talking, Lie Fan explained the plan first to everyone in the room.

Except for Ji Ling, Jia Xu, and Chen Qun who was part of the people who made the plan, everyone slowly supported the plan after knowing that they would be sent to Taiwan, where only Lie Fan and his forces knew about it which can become a perfect place for exile.

Liu Ye and Cai Yong who were the first ones to object to to Lie Fan's plan to save Yuan Shu's family slowly began to accept it, but they were still skeptical about how they would save Yuan Shu's family because Runan had a high level of security.

Lie Fan smiled at them, and told them about how Cao Cao would send some supplies to Liu Bei which meant he needed soldiers to escort them, Cao Cao allocated soldiers to his major towns to guard the supply caravan.

This move leaves many major towns to lose some personnel and Cao Cao's army is facing Long Zhou's right now, making every major town including Runan's security lax, one that Oriole can use to their advantage.

Cai Yong and Liu Ye finally rested easy after hearing that Runan security would be lax right now, they showed their agreement and support, and Liu Ye even suggested for they send a letter to Gan Ning and Jiang Qin too. lead some of the ships back to Huai'An secret harbor.

Lie Fan nods his head agreeing with Liu Ye's suggestion, after persuading the rest of his advisors who were reluctant but finally agreed, Lie Fan orders Xu Kai to lead the operation to save Yuan Shu's family alongside Ji Ling as at least Yuan Shu's family will trust him.

The meeting then was ended by Lie Fan, this meeting was just to inform all of his advisors that haven't known about this plan yet including Xu Kai who was the Grandmaster of Oriole.

After the meeting Ji Ling and Xu Kai worked together to prepare for the rescue, their preparation didn't take a long time with the resources that Oriole had, in half a day everything was ready and they could head toward Runan.

Xu Kai and biking lead 100 Oriole Members from Xiapi heading toward Runan, the Orioles from the Runan branch have been sent a letter that they will coordinate with them to bring Yuan Shu's family out from Runan.

The letter was sent through an Oriole member who specialized in becoming a messenger, the oriole member left Xiapi and headed toward Runan with a half-day lead than Xu Kai and Ji Ling.

Xu Kai and Ji Ling rode for 3 weeks and a half before they finally reached Runan, this can be said to be very fast they only rested for 3 hours for the horses and took a quick nap and fast eating.

The Runan's Oriole branch have prepared carriages that will be disguised as merchants' caravan, and they also have infiltrated the state where Yuan Shu's family is being prisoner, with some becoming the guards.

Xu Kai coordinated with the Runan's Oriole Branch Master to break out Yuan Shu's family tomorrow after they take a rest for the day, finally having a full night's sleep which reinvigorated their energy.

The next day, Xu Kai and Ji Ling using the cover of the night lead the 100 Oriole members from Xiapi, and 200 from Runan to infiltrate the Estate, every guard, servant, and maid that they pass by is killed silently, prolonging Cao Cao from knowing about this.

Yuan Shu's Main Wife who has lost her son and husband now being reduced to a commoner, has become skinny and her eyes are somewhat empty when Ji Ling finds her.

Yuan Shu's wife seeing Ji Ling was surprised and life began to be seen in her eyes again, she excitedly calls Ji Ling's name and asks him if he is here to save her and the entire family.

Ji Ling nodded his head, put his finger to his mouth, and explained to her about the plan that would break them out from here, and leave for Huai'An which was in Lie Fan's territory, to board a ship there.

Yuan Shu's main wife hearing Lie Fan's name was shocked, she never expected Ji Lin who was very loyal to Yuan Shu to swear his allegiance to Lie Fan, feeling numb in her heart she nodded her head in acknowledging Ji Ling's words.

With the help of Yuan Shu's main wife, all the surviving and remaining family members of Yuan Shu grouped up at the back entrance of the estate, where Ji Ling helped them enter the prepared carriages.

Xu Kai and the Oriole members, on the other hand, assassinate, distract, or anything in the book was done by them to the guards, servants, maids, and patrol that is passing by the estate, this is to buy them some time at least until tomorrow morning.

Some of the Orioles who disguised as guards stationed themselves at the form entrances, to keep off any patrol who would be suspicious of an empty entrance, without any guards standing guard there.

After some time passed, the last member of Yuan Shu's family finally boarded the carriage guarded by Xu Kai and Ji Ling alongside the Orioles they began to head out and leave Runan under the cover of the dark.

The plan can be said to be a success, of course, the piles of bodies and people who were assassinated by the Orioles shocked Runan, and even Cao Cao himself needed to handle the matter himself.

Cao Cao who was far from Xuchang didn't know about this matter yet, the day after the breakout happened in Runan Cao Cao was in his court receiving letters from Xiahou Dun and Cao Een in the front line that they had taken control of all of Kong Zhou's counties except for his capital.

This makes Cao Cao very happy, and he decides to go to the front line himself, bringing Guo Jia, Xi Zhixai, and his bodyguard Xu Chu alongside him, to meet up with Xiahou Dun and Cao Ren then defeat Kong Zhou once and for all absorbing all of his domain.

Cao Cao and his party needed to pass by Runan first before serving Long Zhou's domain, it was at this time that they met up with a messenger who was sent from Runan to inform Cao Cao about what happened at Runan.

A massacre happens at the estate where he kept the surviving members of Yuan Shu's family, and all of Yuan Shu's family members are found even the elders and children are gone.

Hearing the news Cao Cao was surprised, Guo Jia and Xi Zhicai were also surprised they didn't think that something kike this could truly happen, as except for Yuan Shao there was no benefit whatsoever in breaking out Yuan Shu's family.

Due to this unexpected matter, Cao Cao changed his destination to Runan to handle the matters there personally, when he arrived at Runan he was welcomed by the officials there, and with his party he headed toward the estate.

In the yard of the estate, body after body was put there and covered with a white sheet, the estimated amount is between 40 to 50 bodies laid out there, with more being put down.

Cao Cao: "Bastards! All bunch of bastards! How could something like this happen, innocent people being killed like this and Yuan Shu's family who was war criminal now gone, this will become a stain on my reputation!"

Guo Jia: "My Lord please calm down, we need to investigate immediately who has the interest to save Yuan Shu's family, right now the biggest suspicion is on Yuan Shao, even if the two brothers aren't in good terms blood is thicker than water."

Xi Zhicai: "I agree with what Fengxiao said My Lord, and from the wounds I the endowed and who no one knew until the next day, whoever did this was an expert, and these experts are more than one people with the won't they killed."

Cao Cao: "Alright the two of you lead the investigation, we will stay in Runan for a while to handle this, Fengxiao sent a letter to Wenruo describing to him what happened here."

Guo Jia: "Yes My Lord, General Xu Chu please stay beside Our Lord and guard his door personally, we never knew if the people who did this would come back after knowing that Our Lord is here."

Xu Chu: "Yes Master Guo Jia leave the safety of My Lord to me!"

Cao Cao was standing tall ignoring the conversation happening beside him, he kept his eyes on the bodies that were covered by white sheets.

The death of these people actually doesn't concern him, what concerns him is the impact on his reputation, and that someone has an expert group of assassins or spies or both, and they break out Yuan Shu's family which will become a big stain on his reputation.
