An hour by foot is not far. its about 5 km. If a taxi has to drive 20min for 5 km, traffic must be horrific. A car can do that in 5 minutes.

I think she doesn't actually remember the cycles but learns from the diaries she leaves behind instead. Unless she started writing them because the memories are too many to keep track of.

I think she does not have the memories of the previous cycles but she leaves herself diaries in the chests which she will find every loop. The fact that there are so many books means they have done very many cycles so far.
