there's big difference between fantasy and stupidity. for any book to work the story has to obey rules, the rules you change - you declare in one way or another. so far he plays by earth's rules, so it's lame part and not mystical. it could be written as "he felt as something leaving his body with this throw" or "he's heightened senses made him calculate the weight of the sword and navigated his movements". tl\dr: author needs to follow the rules he set, and not make everything "by sheer luck", or we can complain about it.

you mistake machine made for mass produced, otherwise you are right so. swords where mass produced for wars and conquests so.
