I have read about this before, one person named it as "calling the target" making it appear larger in your perception. I don't know if it's real or bs that authors use and pros don't care to disabuse, but it's still cool.

20 meters with a pistol is actually quite easy, even for your first time. unless they are using tiny targets, which would be pointless. in the army we did pistol training to qualify with the 9 mm, and it took a day for my platoon of 50 to all qualify shooting targets of man size and shape at 10, 15, 20, and 30 meters. 30 was hard, 10 was baby simple, 15 and 20 took practice is all.
