Such a solid update! The dialogues matched the mood of the chapter perfectly.
A full moon. A dark night. A wild and quite forest. A cement embankment along a glistening lake, and a woman standing on it. A woman with short straight hair, a long trench coat under which she's wearing a gorgeous midi dress with cutest pair of strapped heels. She takes a shining ring off her right ring finger throws it away casually and then herself. She jumps right into the lake. She can't swim nor does she want to. As it gets harder to float and breathe she starts sinking deeper and deeper, however as humans are, she extends her hand out in desperation and tries to mouth "save me". That only ends up back firing as the water rushes into her mouth and lungs and she starts losing consciousness. Through the gaps of her fingers she views a woman's silhouette drawing closer. This woman looks to be either wearing a super tight scuba diving bodysuit or is completely naked, with long wavy hair that spread as if she's floating in the air with the moonlight glistening behind.

Really good read. The character interactions felt warm and easygoing.
For one breath the plaza had the picture it wanted: heir and scholarship girl, pretty enough to sell. Then the labels under us refreshed, and the pretty broke.

Good update overall! The conversational bits felt very authentic.
The students settled in when their professor, Ms. Chen, entered the class. She was a woman in her fifties who still looked like she was still in her forties. Her aura was mystical. Her presence was gentle and so kind that everyone couldn't help but like her. She would easily make everyone interested in the class.

Each step upward made my thighs protest, the suitcase banging ruthlessly against my shins. By the time I finally reached the third floor, I was breathing hard enough to remind myself to slow down before my asthma decided to join the chaos. I paused outside the door, fishing the keys from my pocket with trembling hands. The metal felt cool and completely unfamiliar. This was it. My new start. A fresh start.

Such a smooth chapter. The way the characters chat is always fun to read.
Locks that got kicked in left splinters. Marks. A story anyone could read from the hallway. This one told no story at all. It had simply opened, the way it was supposed to, for someone who knew exactly what they were doing. Elena stood frozen with her keys still raised, halfway to the deadbolt she now realized she hadn't needed to unlock, and felt the particular vertigo of a very ordinary evening tipping sideways into something else entirely. Call the police, said the sensible part of her brain, the part that had spent the last four years restoring seventeenth-century oil paintings in the quiet, climate-controlled hush of the Kessler Gallery, a part of her life that had never once required her to think about locks. Don't move, said a different, older part of her a part she didn't examine too closely, because it had never made sense, this reflex she'd had since childhood to go very still and very quiet whenever something felt wrong. Her therapist, years ago, had called it hypervigilance and left it there, unexplored, like most things about Elena's early childhood, which existed for her mostly as a fog with a car accident at the edge of it and nothing underneath. Her phone buzzed in her hand before she could decide which instinct to trust. Marco: Don't go inside. I'm five minutes out. She read it twice. Marco Rossi had raised her since she was six years old had driven her to school, sat through every parent-teacher conference, walked her down an aisle that didn't exist yet but that he already had opinions about and in eighteen years, he had never once texted her something that sounded like an order. "How do you already know," she whispered to the empty hallway, to a man who couldn't hear her, and did not go inside. Twenty minutes earlier, and on the opposite end of the city, in a house with no address that appeared on any public record, Marco Rossi had been standing in a room with no windows, waiting for a man who did not believe in standing up to greet his guests. "You told me she'd be safe," Marco said, before the door had even finished closing behind him. Don Salvatore Cavallo did not look up from the folder open on the desk in front of him. He had the stillness of a man who had never needed to perform authority, because no one in the room had ever doubted it. "She was safe," he said. "For eighteen years, Marco, she was safer than almost anyone in our world ever gets to be. That's not nothing. That's a small miracle, and you know it as well as I do." "Was," Marco repeated. "Past tense. What changed?" Salvatore finally lifted his eyes, and there was something almost like sympathy in them, which was somehow worse than if there hadn't been. "Someone's been asking questions. About a woman who died eighteen years ago in a fire that, officially, no one survived. I don't know who's asking yet. I don't know why now, after all this time, someone decided to go digging. But someone knows to dig at all, which means the arrangement you and I made the night I helped you disappear her, that arrangement just became a liability I have to manage. Immediately." Marco's hands curled at his sides. "She thinks her name is Elena Rossi. She thinks her parents died in a car accident. She restores paintings for a living. She has never held a gun in her life, Salvatore. She doesn't know what she is."

Really liked this update. The dialogues felt comfortable and well-paced.
Her blonde hair was pinned up like always, with a black bow at the back. People always noticed it first. That had been true for years. Cait said her eyes only made it harder to blend in. Emerald eyes stood out too much at a school where everyone noticed everything. And her face, Cait claimed, could land her a role in a romantic movie if she ever tried out.
