Translator San here. This is by far the best translation work that I've done, no cap. I've always loved spy fiction, and this novel introduced me to a whole new world of Chinese spy fiction. It's pretty good, I've got to say. But I will be changing stuff in the novel to make it more palatable, add notes to make sure first time readers don't get lost, and fill in the steamy scenes that the original author had left out. Any spy thriller is really incomplete without that, let's be honest.

They are kind of on the same group, but nobody really trusts the other. And in the spy business you never know when someone turns out to be a mole or a double agent. Ming Lou is on the surface a rich man from the Ming family who has decided to work for the collaborative government, but actually he's a nationalist spy master but going deeper, he's also working with the communists. He can't let any one of these organizations know about his ties with the other. Not even the communists and the Nationalist, even if they are both fighting the Japanese, cause then his loyalties will be questioned and there is conflict between those organizations too. Ming Lou's sister is just an emotional rich lady who can't see her country suffering, so she helps out the Communists with funds and transporting supplies without knowing all her brothers are already putting their lives on the line, and her clumsy spy work is only making it harder for them. Basically, she can't be trusted with any secrets, or she might end up leaking them even if she doesn't want to. Chen Qing knows all this and will never want to get involved with the Ming family. They are only loyal to China and their family; he's not even on the list and will be sacrificed if it serves the two.
He's a spy, he'll be in trouble regardless of what he does. Running will only attract more attention to him.
Yes, but they aren't going to believe him. He might end up getting tortured, and this time for real.
Thanks for the review. I was also a bit lost when I read this the first time, so I'll do my best to put in as many reader notes and context clues as possible.
Is that a brain in your head that I'm sensing??? Send it out the door please.
