I want to preface this by saying I enjoyed the Edo arc very much. Interesting characterization of Kashimo and solid writing. Unfortunately, we reach the Modern era and the story starts taking a nosedive. Kashimo is incarnated and has a full personality shift and it’s justification is nonsensical at best and nonexistent at worst. The plot feels contrived and forces Kashimo to act radically different to simply drive the story forward. His entire reasoning for wanting to reincarnate in 2002 simply doesn’t make sense either. It is entirely too early for him from everything we have seen from his character so far. He asks to become a cursed object because he has been bored for ten years. But also asks to be incarnated before Sukuna’s vessel is even born, thus he would need to wait at least 15 years for Sukuna to incarnate in a proper vessel. Also the argument that he has internet now is silly unless you also want to make the argument that access to the internet is a REAL substitute for fighting and killing people.
No offense, but why in the world would you ever do that? In a story where battles are a huge part of the world, delegating Yuji to “plan maker” and keeping him out of fights would make him the most boring part of the story. He’s first mate, it’s okay for him to be a powerhouse for the crew and a sort of “commanding” figure for the crew so long as he isn’t overshadowing Luffy as captain. That’s typically the role for all first mates. The main issue is handling their opponents in an entertaining manner. With Yuji, they are going to be a stronger crew, there isn’t a way around that, I mean if they weren’t the addition of Yuji would be meaningless. But you also can’t just have them streamroll everybody immediately. Finding a way to reconcile the fact that they are stronger while still having good obstacles should be your main priority.
