If you’re even THINKING about starting Gilded Ashes, do it. Seriously. This story is one of those “just one more chapter” traps where you look up, it’s 3 AM and you’re like… yeah, worth it. What makes it hit so hard is that it doesn’t only do one thing well. It does everything. (Not glazing btw) The worldbuilding is insane. This isn’t some copy-paste fantasy backdrop where people yell “magic!” and you’re all supposed to clap when someone blows up a mountain with a ridiculously overpowered spell. The world feels built, like it has history, systems, rules, everything. You can tell that Sqair actually thought about how the world works - the politics, the power structures, the tech-fantasy vibe, the way locations feel different instead of just being “city/forest/mountain.” And the best part? It doesn’t info-dump you to death. You learn the world naturally while stuff is happening, and it keeps expanding in a way that feels satisfying, not confusing. It’s complex, but it’s not messy. It’s the kind of world where you start remembering names, factions, places, and you realize you’re actually invested. At least, that's what happened to me. The characters all feel actually alive, and they’re all different in the best way. Not just there for the plot, making the MC look good. I'm not going to say anything about Raizen, because I fear that I might accidentally slip some spoilers😅. But he's just great. Not stupidly overpowered, not an idiot (like most novels these days)... Overall, the whole cast is stacked, but nobody feels like a clone or a filler NPC. Everyone has their own vibe, their own voice, their own backstory, their own way of reacting to stress, danger, trauma, friendship, all of it. You’ll have characters that make you laugh, characters that make you want to scream at them (it happened to me), characters you want to protect, characters you want to see appear more. And the relationships? That’s where the story really shines. First of all, there’s that found-family energy, but it doesn’t feel forced or cheesy. Then there's the comrade/classmate vibe, totally nailed... It's just so much, I can't properly explain all of it at once😂 But the story has EVERYTHING Like, whatever you’re in the mood for, it’s here: Fantasy - yep, and it’s peak. Action - real tension, real stakes, not just “they fight, the end.” Drama - always there in the background, always ready to punch you in the face. Slice of life - just enough to breathe, to bond with the cast, to recover before the next hit. Romance - not much, it's pretty subtle. But you can totally say that it's there, the kind where a tiny moment can make you grin like an idiot. Cooking chapters - I’m not even joking. Dead-a$$, there are cooking chapters. Somehow it works, it’s actually funny and makes me hungry asf. It’s like the author understood that nonstop fighting isn’t what makes a story addictive. It’s the contrast. The calm after the storm, the bad jokes right before something awful happens. Then... The writing. Oh, THE WRITING. A lot of novels want to feel epic. Then you get hit in the face with AI slop or filler. This one actually is. You can picture scenes clearly, the emotions don’t get buried under weird ass prose (let's ignore the middle chapters, the author promised he'd rewrite those, we get it), but they still hit hard. When it wants to go intense, it goes intense. When it wants to be funny, it’s funny. When it wants to get quiet and heavy, it knows how to slow down and let the moment breathe. This novel actually respects the reader. This is a big one, that I see less and less every day. You don't just turn off your brain just to waste time. The story doesn’t treat you like you’re dumb. It sets up mysteries, threads, little details, and you can feel that payoff building. There’s always that “wait… what does that MEAN?” feeling that keeps you turning pages. Also, if you just started reading... Trust me. Remember the small details. Later, you'll just stand there and realize "damn. It was always there from the start". Even with small reveals, it's just beautifully built. And it’s not perfect in that fake way where everything is easy. Wins have weight. Choices have consequences. People get hurt. Stuff changes. The story moves. To sum it all up... It’s got heart, it’s got emotion, it’s got style, and it’s got characters you actually end up caring about. If you want a novel that can make you hype, make you laugh, ESPECIALLY MAKE YOU CRY, and then casually drop a scene that leaves you staring at the screen for a minute… yeah. This is it. 10/10 Don't believe me? just read a few chapters. I’m telling you right now - you’re not dropping it after “a few.”
