The reading comprehension is really showing, Wells Unknown Abyss is the ability to mix shikigami not the ability to store and move in shadows. Those two abilities are separate. What gege is trying to say is that the merge shikigami of multiple flying toads are a result of mixing toad and nue not totality, and if one of them were to be destroyed the merged best can't be made anymore. Yet again the reading comprehension curse strikes again.
