Yes you are right to think so, but you see, at that point, everyone had unofficially accepted that Lorian won't be fit to take the throne, and it would be Cassian who was recognized as unofficial heir. Also, the tussle between Lorian and Lyssian in the library could be presented as 'brotherly' fight between cousins. But involving personal knight to that clash to hurt your cousin could be great scandal, like Lorian was actively trying to threaten or eliminate his cousin using his lackey. It could be made into a huge agenda further reducing chance of Lorian to inherit the thorne.
