I meant that their characters represent some really common tropes. Eris obviously represents the tsundere trope, Sylphie is kind of a really traditional and sexist japanese view on what a good wife should be and Roxy is a legal loli. I'm not saying that these tropes define the characters because in mushoku tensei they are developed nicely and the characters are really interesting, but just that they do represent these tropes. Like I like everything else about them except the tropes lol. It's just that japanese fiction/people really like that sort of stuff. So yeah pretty much the same as what you said.

It does some stuff better too in my opinion. I think that the pacing on the anime is a bit better at times, and of course the fights are amazing. Also, it's a completely different medium and it's so much more complicated to make an anime especially one so controversial as mushoku tensei taking into consideration the effort and funding involved. It's really hard to adapt a novel because a show and a novel will always be completely different from each other so it's not exactly fair to point at scenes and say that the novels did it better. This is imho one of the best anime adaptations ever made, but the critisism is also valid and some things could have been done better especially in s2.
