I've read a lot of similar novels and this is one of the better ones. As of writing he just reached wizard level, and I'm still enjoying it. If there's any gripe I had it's that the MC is a bit of a pushover, but that has mostly gone away as he has gotten stronger.
The free chapters were interesting but it quickly went downhill. The MC "coincidentally" meets a series of super attractive, extremely powerful, mentally unstable girls from his previous life who all inexplicably fall in love with him.
A fun novel by the same author who wrote Great Doctor Ling Ran, another novel I liked. Lots of details about the Chinese police and justice system and forensic science. The author has a good sense of humor which is well conveyed by the translation - the novel itself isn't a comedy but he adds jokes which keeps the general tone light. For instance: "They glanced at each other, their expressions similar to those watching the East African animal migration. Novel. Delightful. Slightly frightening." (a couple of characters in the middle of a conversation with the MC).
Great novel. The worldbuilding and character development are excellent, and it's fairly fast-paced. Haven't noticed any significant issues with the translation.
An interesting variation on an otherwise traditional slow-paced xianxia. The information-recognition bit seems to exist to justify an untalented cultivator managing to eventually surpass all of the more talented ones, and doesn't come off as a cheat or detract from the story. The chapters are quite long compared to other novels on this site which is nice, and while the translation isn't perfect, its usually just minor changes to names, and not enough to find off-putting. Overall one of my favorite novels.
Starts out as a comedy and slowly transitions into a grand fantasy with excellent worldbuilding and character development. It's like a light-hearted version of reverend insanity.
Wasn't a fan of the author's previous works, but this one is great. Great characters, great worldbuilding, great story. There are occasionally parts that I dislike, but he's a good enough writer that I can still enjoy the book even when I don't enjoy the subject. Having read a lot of Chinese books the nationalism and racism doesn't bother me much, but this author seems to hate Japan even more than usual. It comes up often enough that you might have to miss this one if it bothers you.
Great book, 10/10, highly recommend. Every arc so far has been distinct and engaging. Each character is memorable, even the one-off supporting cast, and the world building is great.
Poorly translated and tedious to read; terms are randomly changed and relations are impossible to keep track of. The story didn't seem interesting enough to suffer through.
The concept is interesting but the story isn't well written. A generic urban fantasy with no consistency or world building. The endless filler and false drama was what made me stop reading.
