I don’t remember if that had already been explained when I wrote this but you’re definitely right about her death. In their marriage I really felt like Sumeng tried to balance his duty with his general affection towards Anyue but it just wasn’t the same type of attraction he had with Xuelan. I also think part of the mental collapse that Xuelan experienced was due to his feelings for Sumeng. Idk, it’s been a while since I read this.

I’m just leaving this here for my future self but please chime in as you see fit: Ok just saying this even though I’m probably wrong…I think Guanyu is another one of He Juan’s lost boys. Just like Mu Yuze he grew up and got healthy so he is no longer identifiable but I think he knew MY & HJ from long ago. Only difference is Guanyu is still connected. It would explain how he got resources to get high end knock offs and car rentals. It also explains how he knows entirely too much about everybody and everything.
