Grayson's mechanized world seems to crawl around him from the first moment onward (of course, it doesn't take long to realize that these mechanized/digitized/synthesized inhabitants never rest, even when he does). I'd have to go back to grab the details, but I presume the family to be engaged in interstellar travel, which would fit the surrounds. Given the size of such an undertaking, do you think that sponsorship or brands might weave their way into their lives? I say this, given that even our pet names for things - Q-Tips or Band-Aid for instance - become a basic descriptor. I wonder if the brand of machine here and there would enhance the sense of familiarity Grayson has with his world. Just as in the age, he might think nothing of grabbing a Pop-Tart - what are the throw-away shortcut names of life in the Ring? These might emerge in later chapters. Thanks for making your work available for reading.
Was this reversal of the phrase 'grown man' intended?
Great detail with the decorative vine-gets the mind spring-boarding immediately.
