i have one problem with this. the mc mother who is a single mother, cherishes his son and loves him beyond anything in the world, wants to protect him and support him and take on the world for him if need be, that he is reminder of her only love, its very out of character that a individual like her would have knowledge of endevour family situation and do absolutely nothing about it. he is beating his wife, tormenting his children, led one of them to basicly suicuide (as far as they know, with they i mean not the public but mc family) scared the other one. if you look closer to dynamics its extreme abusive mental and physical, why would she do nothing about this? she is a mother, a hero who knows more about suffering of families than most and she does nothing?
