So the saffron talk sent me into a rabbit hole, and it turns out that persians had the custom to use the dried stigma as a tea infusion. And also the fact that the spice has 4 grades, differentiating themselves thanks to a redder color, fractioning said stigma into 1/4, the most expensive being the red powder left from just grinding the tip of the stuff.
