After reading up to chapter 40, I have a few hypotheses as follows: First: It seems humans from Earth somehow entered a game world, and believing they were immortal since it was a game world, they lived for decades or centuries until they realized this game world was also a kind of 'reality'. Not wanting to die, they devised a method of body-switching. However, if they took over a regular person's body, their level would decrease and skills would be locked, preventing them from switching bodies again when needed in the future (or perhaps they had become so elevated as to be called gods that they couldn't enter ordinary bodies). Therefore, it seems they created a class-change dungeon to procure bodies that met specific conditions, and continued living by repeatedly claiming these suitable bodies. Second: Moreover, given their position, they might have regularly received bodies as tributes from the major noble houses. The noble houses would have calculated that it was beneficial for them to have a god temporarily reside within their bloodline. From the book's content, it seems likely there isn't just one god but multiple, though whether one is taking the lead or if they're all participating equally remains to be seen in future content. The author truly writes exceptionally well.
