it's an expression whose meaning is: before I could utter a word.

But before I could say jack, the werewolf jumped on me and was eager to attack me.

on second thought, in this sentence I think aniki does work better; since going by experience in the industry, Akira is actually the senior. So him using senpai strikes me as wrong.

    Akira shyly smiled. "Thanks, brother."

From my experience watching anime, senpai would be more appropriate in Japanese though that translates to senior. I don't know what the equivalent is in Korean in settings like these although I used to watch k-dramas too. However I do know that males use hyung for older brother while oppa is used by females although both mean the same.

    Akira shyly smiled. "Thanks, brother."

"You'll know when I get there, brother," he smiled. "I'll make sure that you'll definitely know."

It's not just chinese cultivation novels which use (martial) brother.I used to read manhwa (Korean comics) and use of the term brother (hyung) in gangs is part of gang culture.

I figured it was derived from naver. I forgot a bellybutton is called a navel 😅. thanks for reminding me.

As soon as the commercial aired, the topic rose to become the number 1 trend on Navel, the largest social media platform in the country.
