good news, if LilLogan is the love interest then it works out as a duo with the mc, the mc is a non-physical fighter and she's strictly physical, covers eachothers blind spots fairly well and further cements the fact we won't have to deal with a bunch of working out or martial arts

this is not the behaviour of someone who "pays back their debts" its the behaviour of someone obsessed with the image of being that type of person. the school is getting access to an omega level mutant, his probable assistance in the event of an emergency, his information about mutations if he feels like giving any out, on and on and on. the mc is receiving less from this deal than professor is and he's just adding rent on? this line should just be deleted from the novel, it makes it feel more like the mc has an ego and wants to be seen as benevolent to all these pathetic mutants that are beneath him rather than him just being some honest guy who doesn't like being indebted.

she's okay looking and you know nothing about her, why are we pretending either of them would have any interest in eachother?

dude half the people here are probably staring at the new guy let alone catching glances, she sounds like the least interested person on the flight. also this is an issue some fanfictions have, so far the only thing we know about Jean is that she's connected to the xmen and just blushes over any guy she thinks is handsome. I doubt this author is using this scene to set up some sort of relationship with the mc but people are cringing because some do and it's gross, her first action as a human in the story is just to puff up the ego of the mc and nothing else.

she only really seems to be liked by fanfiction authors, its a combination of her sort of "edgy personality" and the generally lacklustre dialogue of xmen movies.

it feels like the author just writes the previous line to have wolverine pat his protagonist on the back. think about it like the author writing and fanfiction and then having the marvel characters say stuff like "omg have you heard about [author name] he's such a good writer" except this example is a little more on the nose. maybe the auth didn't intend to use it this way but alot of shallow compliments like this are going to come across like that and it feels cringe

never give information away for free in this sort of situation, I guess it's his way of explaining the portal but he should've atleast been pressed before giving it up
