The two fishermen rowed the boat to the edge and pulled Riverena out of the nest despite her pleading with them to release her. "You will keep quiet and come with us, or I will kill that baby with my spear." Just as the mole man reached out to snatch the infant, Riverena swiftly sidestepped his grasp. Seizing a fistful of the wet mud, she flung it fiercely into the men's eyes, blinding them temporarily. She limped away towards the forest with the baby in her arms, her wounded legs aching with every desperate step.
