That’s a great way to describe a lot of eldritch stories. I really loved the writing of The Lord of Mysteries as well as the power system but the universe was a pretty dark one with no redeeming qualities. I just felt dread while reading because it felt like no matter what happened the average person would have an awful unfulfilling life and even talented people had to endure countless dangers and lacking the plot armor and MC has usually would result in your death.
