I think it's more just the knee jerk reaction. A manifestation of their fear from the last two scenes and the uncertain future that scared them. These two are just normal students and maybe a little introverted. So seeing such violent scenes just caused them to become terrified and momentarily affected by the dungeon's atmosphere. I hope they can turn around and change. Or come to understand Ryuji better. Remember, the world Ryuji sees seems to black out certain things from his view because of his Bipolar and mental issues.
