Another spoiler sort of so don't read if you don't like them; He doesn't know how to use the skill yet. Its been a while since I wrote this but I think it was in the forest massacre chapters when he tried and it didn't do anything.
It was a similar skill to the one Tiffany had that made her invisible so maybe this was more evidence he had just been fighting an assassin since he had literally just stopped them from kidnaping her and it was something they were known for. This is kind of a spoiler but not really but don't read if you care about that kind of thing, Lucas found it odd but didn't say anything because people mind their own business in this world, also there is a small chance Lake already had his job changed to Appraiser because there are Job change stations all over the place in the spire so people can work as efficiently as possible.
