Married to her, Daphne wanted to emphasize. According to her mother, King Atticus had even announced that the only person who could rival him would be none other than Daphne herself. That should've made it very clear to the leaders of the world that Daphne was the rightful queen of Vramid, the only woman who could stand by Atticus's side.

Nereus' eye is different case. It is already stated that Kelpies were almost extinct. So, he was just unfortunate to be at wrong place on wrong time.
"I'd rather it be me," he said. "If King Atticus didn't take my wing, he would have to hunt down an innocent griffin. With me, at least, he had every right. I owe him at least that. But what wrong would the wild griffin have done to receive such a punishment?"
