Reaping souls is only a method of increasing his spiritual power capacity in a shorter period of time, but it'll still grow naturally. Also, I mentioned in one of the chapters that the souls of weaker beings do nothing for him, only those of similar strength and stronger help. (It should be noted that even if Kaizen can easily dispatch an enemy, it doesn't mean they are necessarily (physically) weaker than him, it's just his abilities are too versatile.)
