A democratic system allows for more freedom and equality among citizens, and it allows for the representation of the people's wishes in the decision-making process, plus a democratic system is more likely to be sustainable in the long-term, as it is less likely to be overthrown by a single leader or group of individuals so although it would be nice for the mc to become a king, a democratic system is a better option for the country in the long-run.
