I really like the story, and I don’t really mind that the MC is sidelined for a bit. To me it just feels like a training and buildup arc for later in the story. It looks like the author is setting things up for long-term development, but some readers drop the story at this point because they think nothing is happening. Personally, I think that’s a bit of a loss on their side since they might miss the payoff later. Sometimes I also feel like readers contradict themselves. If the story starts going in a different direction from the original plot, people say it doesn’t even feel like a proper Supernatural fan fiction anymore. But if the author follows the canon plot closely, then they say it’s just copying the series. So it’s kind of a difficult balance for the author either way.
