My best guess is it's talking about being injured and treading alone in the winter. Trying not to be caught while being chased even as your being tracked

Thinking about how in most of the books they look down on daughters and only want sons. Jokes on them though since if only sons are born like they want, everyone will die out if their dreams come true. I want to see a book where karma like that appears.
