the field guide has an in-game explanation for plot reasons, it's an educational aid because he/she/they start in fifth year so it's used to help study the quick slot spells I'm not sure
Stopping quickly to open his field guide, he rearranged his fast trigger spells, trading out utility spells like Lumos and Disillusionment for combat oriented spells. Glancing over his Field Guide Challenge completion percentage, it read a clean 100%. Being a Ravenclaw, he took pride in fully completing his field guide, solving all the merlin trials, finding all the missing pages, fully exploring all of Hogwarts and the surrounding hamlets and its secrets, finishing all the combat challenges; all before his O.W.Ls. Using the key to enter an old vault, the protagonist learns they can see traces of ancient magic. The duo is confronted by a hostile goblin named Ranrok.
