Two words that shattered her sense of reality, spoken with the ease of someone ordering a drink. Sophia Hart’s gaze shot to Alexander Maddox, the infamous billionaire whose proposition seemed more like a command than a request.
"You can’t be serious," she said, her voice strained as she fought to steady herself in her crappy apartment.
Alexander smirked, almost mocking smile playing at the corners of his lips. His sharp yes met hers, assessing and cold, as though she were just another piece in a game that only he controlled. "You need money. I need a wife. It’s simple."
simple? it is never simple to get involved with a person like him, let alone marry him.
She should’ve walked away. She should’ve stood up, torn the contract in half, and left him in his perfect world. But desperation had a way of wearing down any resistance.
