If I was in his place, I would have credited the original creators of the song, only keeping my name as the singer and interpret. Using the original composers' names to fill in the places of lyricist, composer, etc. It's the same thing with electricity. "I was taught by two great men named Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison about this wonderful thing called electricity..." Why take the credit of something I didn't do for myself?
