Bro, you gotta put yourself on some level into Subaru’s shoes man. Like if I was gonna finna die within the next three days, I wouldn’t spend the time training on physical activities. Rather, I would just try to figure out what to do to go against that fate. Not only that, although he IS weak in both physical and magic, he gets stronger after going past his trauma. He does learn parkour and new magic after the Sanctuary Arc (though, it is more physical; he only focuses on magic after Arc 5). But then comes the argument, why didn’t he train before the Sanctuary arc? Simply put, he just couldn’t focus with how busy he was. His will to save everyone is much higher than just simply strengthening himself. Only after Satella telling him to stop devaluing himself does he truly start self-improving. The past trauma of trying to be like his dad also hinders his motivation to self improve (kinda ironic, but I think it’s the fact that he couldn’t meet those expectations that truly deterred him.) I think the fact that even with all of that however, he still pushes forward is what makes him a great character. If he didn’t, all the companions that later support him would not be there, making Subaru lose his way. After all, he is just the representation of the common man. Just because you are isekai’d does not mean that you will suddenly be talented in all things.
