So conquering them to remove potential threats while taking their resources to become stronger is surprising viable and profitable. Just because there were more male rulers doesn't mean women were incompetent or vice versa. Circumstances were unfavourable towards them yet many still became strong rulers. Thus gender is irrelevant when it comes to competency.
