In fact I suspect that it may have been a bit of a challenge to write such an engaging novel without including repetitive verbatim philistine tropes. For this you have my utmost respect. Keep up the great work.

I'd have to disagree. Leadership is the determining factor in any organization religious or secular. The evils and atrocities done by the church where committed during hundreds of years of corrupted leadership. This fostered a culture that perverted the original teachings of Judeo-Christianity. E.g. The reign of the Borgia family during the reconnaissance period. As for science the most atrocious things were cultivated/developed under the leadership of the day e.g. Chemical weapons/nuclear weapons. The question is why would you develop such atrocious and inhumane weaponry in the first place. To put it simply greed. Think Afghanistan and other similar situations.
