You could always do what Darkwolf did and remake the system without numbers, just proficiencies. That removes a lot of math and makes the story less system-centriec. Plus characters can create their own spells and really understand what type of energy/magic they upgraded

I mean that Shiro works is pretty good, especially the new ones where he rework system from numbers to mastery and that players can create spells and they are no longer system slaves. They are just fantastic. His only problem is that there are around 20 works that he started and he will update them dependent on his mood(just a few hours ago his newest fic got a 3rd chapter)
