To be fair, when you have a set of rocks that can wipe you off the face of the planet there isn't really a concept of "too much power." Furthermore, with adaptation the MC will easily deal with most challenges and fights, the main issue is that they will mainly be "punch" and "punch harder," so giving him more powers allows the author more freedom in how they write the story or make scenes.

8 months late. But, Rogue absorbs everything from a persons talents and personality to their very life force upon contact. The reason she "copies" people is because the energy remains for 60 times the amount of time she was touching the person and she can even take powers permanently if she kills a person by absorbing them. This is why in the comics her first boyfriend was left in a coma and later died after their first kiss. (Source: read the fucking wiki at least before trying to correct everyone)
