The story pulls you in by curiosity alone, so far there's no boring plot in which the reader can figure out what's going to happen throughout the story simply by reading the available chapters. You're left wondering if the couple will get together or not due to the circumstances of both characters. I'm very glad I came across it, especially since it's shorter than most novels.
She had adoptive su parents, plus she does know about alpha's getting pregnant, which she decided to simply not share with Chu Yun. She's also a character I don't fully trust, like she said the biggest threat is the one you don't know of. I'm guessing she's aware of who she really is just like her brother, but even so her and Ziyi would be cousins, right? Not to mention the king obviously doesn't acknowledge her because she's a girl or whatever reason idk, but she knows she has no royal standing.
So right off the bat leave, leave the relationship, putting up with mediocrity of someone's effort in "making things work" is just settling for less than what you want from them and encouraging their behavior. BUT I do understand that first loves are hard to let go and a first heartbreak isn't something people are eager to experience. Great start, really enjoying the build up and break down.
So far the story is interesting, I do like how the main character doesn't immediately fall in love however it makes it seem like he won't ever fall in love with the king, which is not an ideal romance story. Gets confusing when he suddenly starts having feelings for him even if it's mostly sympathy. It's a good concept when done right, but it is a difficult one to achieve. Basically a bland story with predictable plot, but interesting nonetheless.
It would be interesting to read about Gu Wei's past, but I don't think it's necessary from what you've already shared about him already. Not to discourage you or anything just don't feel pressured, like you need to fill in some missing gaps in the story. On another note, it sounds like we're closer to the end and I'm not ready for it, too soon 😭
Personally I believe that creating a story that can capture attention and keep it during the first free chapters is very difficult to do, but you've managed to do it quite effortlessly. This happened to be the first story I read from your works and was pleasantly surprised by my interest since discovering it. You have talent for storytelling that much is undeniable and I hope you continue releasing more content.
