it's not the author, but rather Webnovel that is the problem here. The book is finished and translated, and available from other sources (Manta, in particular) for a reasonable cost, but Webnovel is keeping the remaining chapters locked behind a very expensive pay wall for an unknown period of time. Don't blame the author for Webnovel's doing.
Webnovel releases the newest chapters of each book for users who pay for early access first, called 'privilege.' In the case of Under The Oak Tree, privilege users got the newest chapters about a month before free users, at the highest cost tier. As for why they aren't releasing any more free chapters at the moment, it -looks- as if the books has been completed under privilege chapters, so my guess is they're going to delay the free release by a month or two to attempt to pressure people into paying for privilege. Don't pay for privilege, though. It's a massive waste of money. For a book still being released, it basically only pays for you to hurry up and wait. You get a handful of extra chapters to read immediately, then still have to wait the same amount of time that free users wait after that, only NOW, if you stop paying for privilege, you have an extra month wait until the free chapters catch up. In the case of this book, you would have to pay like $50 to unlock all the privilege chapters and finish it today. OR you can go to the Manta app and pay just $1 for the final volume of Under the Oak Tree. I'm choosing to wait here for a month or two to see if the chapters are eventually released for free, but I doubt I'll continue using Webnovel after that, except to reread things I already have unlocked. This app is scammy, most of the books are unenjoyable trash, and I'm basically done.
All privilege really does is give you the right to unlock new chapters sooner. For example, for me, as a free user, this chapter just unlocked today. But I'd argue that unless a series is completed, or near completion, there's really no benefit to paying for privilege. I still get a chapter roughly every other day. I'm still getting new to me content at the same pace as you are, and mine is free The biggest caveat is that if your drop privilege now, you'll have to wait about a month to get your next new ( to you) chapter. But if you just treat it as a short .hiatus, I think it's worth the long term savings.
Yeah, I figure patience is a faster price to pay to read a book that I enjoy this much for free, while also supporting the author.Plus, if you just never start paying for privilege in the first place, the chapters continue to release at the same rate. I would probably hold off on privilege chapters unless you knew the book hasd ended, and were okay with paying to finish it. Otherwise, if you gotta wait, you might as well wait for free, you know?
I could so imagine it being Ruth. I'm glad that Ruth is remaining loyal, even while Riftan's is being a bit of a moody, antisocial teenager right now. He needs more people who care about him in his life, until he heals enough to care about himself.
By reading it here, you are supporting the author who wrote the story. If we want to be able to continue to enjoy creative works, then it's important to support the people who create them. ESPECIALLY when they're generous enough to offer a free way to enjoy those works. I understand being impatient, and finding the system here frustrating. But ultimately, if we don't support artists, then they can't continue to create art. So let's please support the official release.
I'm glad to see this story return. I read hoping that Season 2 would get a simultaneous release, because I'm impatient, but honestly, this is the most logical reading order. I'm sure Riftan's POV is a beautiful story, too, and I'm happy that it's finally being released! Can't wait to read more!
Riftan's obsession really is unhealthy. He doesn't see and respect Maxi as a partner properly; rather, it's more like he worships her, holds her high above himself... And that's not good for either of them. They need this time and space to, hopefully, build enough self-confidence to understand they DO deserve to love and be loved. Still... Three years. D:
I think Rosetta is a product of her environment. I mean, we've established clearly that her father is a horrible abuser. It seems likely that he was horrible to Rosetta, as well, though perhaps in a different way. Think about how cold she was when she didn't call the guards to heal her father. That man hurt her, too. Different people handle abuse in different ways. Maxi turned her anger and suffering inward, until it left her feeling worthless. Rosetta's anger may lash outward as she desperately tries to pretend she's not frightened and lonely. Rosetta may feel resentful towards Maxi for not doing more, as an older sister, to protect her or pull some of the social pressures off of her But she may also recognize that Maxi DID protect her, by bearing the brunt of the duke's anger, and feel guilty about that. And maybe she's trying to reconcile those complex feelings, especially since her father certainly never taught her how to cope with emotions in a healthy way. I can't say I love her, as a person, but I think her character dynamic is interesting.
