The tournament itself is not meant to be deadly, but death can occur if a disciple overestimates their defences or loses concentration. The possibility of death is also a great motivator for disciples to go all out and not hold back; if a disciple knows they won’t die if they lose a fight, they might not experience that adrenaline rush that pushes them past their limits. Also, these disciples won’t be anywhere near strong enough to impact a war against the Thalgons, unless they reach the Cosmic Lord Realm in less than 50 years, which is highly unlikely. 👍🏼
