I think if the shows were to try and be realistic the army of the dead would be most likely at minimum 500,000 considering the thousands of years that have passed and how ice can stop the rotting of corpses. Also the animals that live in the north. If the Knight king was smart he would start an exotic breeding farm. Especially with direwolves, shadow cats,etc. Mammoths with thick hides that will block arrows will be the equivalent to tanks. The shows under played how scary the long knight truly was. Battles took place over years not a single battle. So having one giant siege at winterfell is unrealistic. They waited thousands of years they can fight a drawn out battle of a few years. Also what is the point of the others if they do not have intelligence and are cable of military tactics. Might as well make them weights.
